I’m Back

I know, I know, I haven’t blogged for so long that you all forgot about me and I don’t blame you. I’ve been on the brink so many times but I had a block in my head on a lot of creative things and I think it’s because I’ve been going through a character upheaval (that sounds dramatic doesn’t it?). I think I’m getting back on track creatively so I’ve decided to change the look of the blog and rather than pressuring myself to stick to certain themes with writing here, I’m going to use it more like a journal and write for me instead of what I think people will want to read.

Since I last blogged at the end of last year a lot of things have happened, probably the biggest thing being that I no longer live in Sunderland. I moved back home to Workington a few weeks ago so I’m in the process of finding a job (if you’re reading this and would like to employ me, please do get in touch). I also shaved my head on my birthday in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer. I raised over £300 and being bald was so much easier and liberating! I keep wanting to go back to the buzz cut but I’m so impatient for it to grow so I can do things with it. There’s a very good chance that I’ll shave it all off again in the future but for now I’m putting a lot of energy into growing it so I can make it bright and colourful.

Three of my original four babies have died since the beginning of the year and I still miss them every day. Fleur was poorly for a long time and none of the medicine we tried was helping her so in the end it was kinder to put her to sleep because the vet thought it was probably cancer. Luna had a few lumps that ended up growing too big and were draining her energy and making her lose weight so that she couldn’t live her best life; and Sybill died unexpectedly during the night after we had to let Luna go. It was a massive shock and made the loss of both her and Luna even more painful. Hermione is still going strong and is now 2 years old which is pretty good for a rat. She wasn’t left alone though, we brought home Esme and Bellatrix (Bella) the same day we lost Luna and almost two weeks ago we welcomed Scout into the family too. I can’t imagine not having rats so it looks like I’m going to be the rat lady forever.

As is the case when you get older, this year seems to be going by quicker than I’d like but I’m hoping it’ll get better and that I’ll be able to get back into the person I want to be. I’m hoping that blogging again will encourage me to make a proper start on the book I’ve been wanting to write for almost a year now, and I’d really like to make some zines (if anyone would like to work with me on that I’d be happy to discuss ideas).

For now I’ll end it here; I just wanted this to be a way to get back into blogging and to remind you all that I’m still here. I’ve jotted down some ideas for the next few posts and I think my next one will be about the Pride events that I’ve been to so prepare for lots of colour!

Welcome back to me and to anyone reading this,

Gemma
